Keeping Up Appearances

Nowadays, most games include things such as hair growth or survival mechanics to make the game increasingly difficult to progress. But Kingdom Come Deliverance takes it to the next level, where even a speck of dirt on your tabard will influence how people see you! In this game, you'll find yourself traipsing through the wilderness, getting covered in dirt and stinking of BO, and because of this you need to ensure that you present yourself in tip-top shape when speaking with nobles! Yes, that means getting a bath and wearing the finest garments to ensure you get the best outcome when speaking to the upper class. But this also means that wandering into a tavern covered in the blood of your enemies won't exactly send the best first impression...

The mechanics regarding your character's appearance are so in-depth that you can receive benefits from wearing quieter and darker clothes when trying to be stealthy. You can quite literally blend in with your environment if you play your cards right! This is just one of the reasons we absolutely love Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Unique Combat Tactics!

We all know how combat can get really stale in RPGs, especially ones that rely only on swinging a sword and don't have all those fancy spells. But Kingdom Come Deliverance does something different with its combat, it feels authentic. You don't have to button mash to get the upper hand on your opponent, you actually have to learn how to fight with different weapons. You can't just skip the tutorial and call it a day, as you will be metaphorically shooting yourself in the foot! You must learn the ways of the sword, how to block, how to parry, how to fight on horseback! It's an intense learning curve and it truly tests your ability as a gamer, but there's something that is just so charming about how different this combat system is. All your weapons and armour have their own maintenance system, and it's pretty easy to be encumbered by all the heavier stuff! Overall, the combat system alone is a big reason why you should pick up a copy!

Quests, Quests, Quests!

It wouldn't be an RPG game without quests, and boy does Kingdom Come Deliverance have some corkers for you! From simply being in one big fistfight, to sabotaging an execution on the executioner's behalf. There's a huge mix of different quests to partake in, some of which require skills such as reading (which you have to learn to do!) or even going on dates! Kingdom Come Deliverance certainly does not handhold you through these quests either, merely giving you a marker on a map, and perhaps a search zone, but no waypoint or direction. You have to figure it out yourself! It's advisable to not have every quest active on your map, otherwise things are going to start getting very confusing...but nevertheless, these quests are a true adventure and worth doing!

Fast Travel, with a Twist!

You're probably thinking why fast travel is one of our 5 reasons, and you'd be right to do so! But trust me when I say one of the things that stands out for me with this game is the fast-travel mechanic. Firstly, you must have enough energy. I mean, after all you are walking quite the distance! You must also have a high enough nourishment level, meaning you should probably eat before you head off. And finally, you will be travelling, so it'll get darker and things will be lurking in the shadows! One of my favourite parts of fast travel with this game is the fact that you can be accosted on the road by a mirage of different people. From beggars who just want a pair of shoes, to a knight who's brawling fair maidens and saving bandits! Or something like that...
