Evolution of the epic Spider-Man story

Not only was the first game incredibly fun to play,it also contained a wonderfully addictive story! One of the most repeated pieces of praise for the game was that it truly made you feel like the one and only Spider-Man! This also included the strong emotional journey that you travelled through as Peter Parker (and as Miles Morales in his spin-off game) and we're sure that the sequel will have the same high quality writing and story that drew us into the original!

The sequel seems to be set two years after the first game and it looks as though a lot of conflict is coming into the lives of our favourite web-slingers! Not only will Peter and Miles have to deal with the emergence of the Hunters (see more about Kraven below), but also the trouble that Peter's all-new black suit will bring.

Two Playable Spider-men (Spider-Mans!?)

Perhaps the biggest change from the previous instalments in the series is that you now get to play a two distinct Spider-men! Both Peter and Miles have unique powers and abilities and the missions that feature each character will highlight these differences. There are three skill trees in the game: one for Peter, one for Miles and one for shared skills. Even though each Spider-Man will have his own missions, the player is free to switch between the two when free-roaming between missions.

All-new Abilities

The game promises just as much skill advancement as the first! You still have skill trees and a ton of web shooter options just like the previous instalments. "Also returning is the ability to collect suits that not only alter your appearance but also unlock unique abilities!

The biggest new game mechanic revealed is the introduction of Web Wings. Both Peter and Miles gain the ability to glide to complement their web-slinging and can increase their speed by utilising wind tunnels.

New web shooter modes will also debut! These include the all-new Web Line and Web Grabber, which will both be useful during stealth missions.

You will also be able to access awesome symbiote powers when playing as Peter in his black suit! Although not every aspect of the symbiote has been revealed, it will allow you to use the iconic black tendrils to deal extra damage to enemies!

Marvellous Cast of Characters - New & Old

The first game included some of the most iconic Spider-Man heroes and villains, whilst also highlighting newer characters that the average web-head might not have been as familiar with. Tons of epic characters from the first game are returing, alongside a spectacular roster of new faces!

Aside from Peter and Miles, characters that have been confirmed to return include: Mary Jane Watson, J Jonah Jameson, Rio Morales, Ganke Lee, Norman Osborn, Yuri Watanabe and Martin Li (also known as Mister Negative)!

The game also sees a ton of epic new characters join the cast, most notably the mysterious Venom! Venom is confirmed to be a villain in the game but it isn't confirmed who will be under the mask! Will it be the previously-unseen Harry Osborn!? Other character's have taken on the identity of Venom in the comics, such as Mac Gargan (better known as the Scorpion) and, more recently, Flash Thompson! This iteration of Venom may be an extra-terrestrial symbiote like the original comic version, or may be related to the mysterious black goo we saw attached to Harry Osborn at the end of the first game. All we know for certain is that the classic host, Eddie Brock, won't be Venom.

Kraven the Hunter will feature as another villain in the game! This version will be hunting down super-powered individuals with the help of his "Hunters", which includes the minor character of Grizzly.

Another confirmed newcomer is the one and only Lizard! The reptilian villain will appear in both his lizard form and that of his scientific alter-ego Dr. Curt Conners. The trailers for the game indicate that Kraven and his hunters will be chasing the Lizard throughout the city.

Finally, the last confirmed character is Peter's best friend, Harry Osborn! He barely appeared in the first game, only making his presence known through voice clips and floating in a tank at the closing of the game. Could Harry be the true identity of Venom!?

More New York!!

The first game introduced the sprawling Manhattan metropolis and allowed you to swing across the island freely between missions. Even though Manhattan was absolutely massive, Insomniac have added 2 whole additional boroughs to explore! Both Brooklyn and Queens are now accessible. This means the map as a whole is now roughly twice the size of the first game! Both of these areas are more residential than the heights of Manhattan that we are used to, so it is certain that they will add an extra dimension to gameplay.
