Pokemon TCG League Regional - Event Report 09/07/22

Last Saturday, we hosted our biggest Pokemon tournament so far - our Pokemon Regional Event!

We had so many people that we couldn't fit all of our players in the Gaming Centre, so we used a bigger venue nearby to house our Tournament.

There was a great showing of all ages and skill levels - a total of 40 different players (That's 6 rounds 😮)! We've put together a meta breakdown of the decks everyone played, down below.

After a tough 6 rounds - we had our Top 8!

  • 1st - Jake Mallender, 5-0-1 (Arceus Inteleon)
  • 2nd - Daniel Telfer, 5-1-0 (Mew)
  • 3rd - Rick Cherry, 5-1-0 (Palkia)
  • 4th - Finn DeBoer, 4-1-1 (Arceus Duraludon)
  • 5th - Max Roberts, 4-1-1 (Arceus Inteleon)
  • 6th - Michael Williams, 4-1-1 (Dark Box)
  • 7th - Charlie Blakemore, 4-2-0 (Palkia)
  • 8th - Daniel Pybus, 4-2-0 (Grass Box)

  • 9th (Bubble) - Daniel Powell, 4-2-0 (Mew)

  • Congrats to Jake for taking the entire tournament, not dropping a single game and winning quite the number of packs! On top of that, congrats to everyone in top 8 (and Daniel in 9th) for doing so well!

Some notable things from the event:

  • Arceus variants were somewhat popular, however no Arceus/Pikachu made it into top 8.
  • Grass Box was the surprising deck of the event, going 4-1 by round 5 before an unlucky loss round 6 (Taking the early loss to Regi, and the late loss to Mew).
  • There were no Blissey players, or control players in the entire event.
  • All but 1 of the Palkia decks were Inteleon-Based, with no Ice Rider line. 1 player used a 2-2 Bibarel line instead, allowing the space for a 2-2 Ice Rider line.
  • Even with the emergence of Roxanne + Path, Mew continued to place high at this event.

  • A massive thank you to anyone who attended the event last Saturday! Without your support and participation in things like this, we wouldn't be here, so we're incredibly grateful to you all. It was truly a blast to run and judge, and we're hoping to run many more of these in the future. Once League Challenges and Cups return, we will be looking to host an event like this for each one, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

In the meantime, if you're looking for smaller events to practice at until then (and before Worlds 2022), we have tournaments every Wednesday (6pm) and Saturday (1pm), so check those out if you're looking for that!

Keep an eye out on our socials and blog as we will be sharing some of the deck profiles from the event and some feature matches on our YouTube channel.
