Decide the Fate of the Forest

In Root, 2 to 4 players attempt to rule over a mystical forest kingdom in an asymmetric game of war and conquest! In Root, you can choose to play as one of four factions, each of which has a unique playing style and resources. Root represents a great example of how asymmetric design can enhance a game. Each player in Root has unique capabilities and a different victory condition. With the aid of gorgeous, multi-use cards, a truly asymmetric design has never been more accessible. The four playable factions are Marquise de Cat, Eyrie Dynasties, Woodland Alliance and the Vagabond. Marquise de Cat focuses on dominating the woods, extracting riches and policing the inhabitants of the forest whilst the Vagabond forges alliances and rivalries with the other players.

As with all great games, Root has a few enhancing expansions and additions that you can pick up to increase your fun. These additions include the Vagabond pack and the Resin Clearing Markers, which improve the quality of the base game. If you're looking for some full expansions, then Root has two with the Clockwork expansion and the Underworld expansion. Both of these have excellent new mechanics and are worth picking up after your first couple of playthroughs.

Each game includes over fifty screen-printed wooden warrior meeples, two different maps and a helpful walkthrough so you can start playing in minutes. Root can be played in 60 to 90 minutes and focuses upon the mechanics of dice rolling, hand management and movement. Not only is Root a fantastic and fresh game to play, it also looks amazing with its rich and vibrant illustrations. If you're a sucker for good-looking board games then look no further than Root!
